Two men were honored for 70 years with the Washington Municipal Band at the group’s 85th birthday celebration Thursday. With the band on the stage in Central Park, Mayor Sandra Johnson, on behalf of the Washington Chamber of Commerce and Chamber Ambassadors, presented certificates of appreciation in front of the crowd to John Winga and Wayne Brock.
The Washington Municipal Band includes members of all ages, including area students, and they perform each Thursday evening following the Farmers Market in Washington’s Central Park. On July 9th the group will travel to Boone to play in the Iowa Municipal Band Festival.
