The house fire in downtown Washington that took the life of 22-year-old Deshia Matthew also displaced three individuals who lived in the home. The four people who lived at 116 W. Third Street were customers of Optimae LifeServices, an agency that provides on-site staff for people with mental and intellectual disabilities. The agency has a crisis team providing counseling for support staff and customers. Those displaced are now in transitional housing. Optimae is working with the Red Cross to ensure their belongings are replaced and community members may donate through the Red Cross.

Additionally, Optimae is conducting an investigation, as is the State Fire Marshal. When asked if working smoke detectors were in the house Optimae LifeServices Director of Communications and Public Relations Sheena Poorman told KCII News, that is part of the ongoing investigation.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help fund funeral services for Matthew.
