Her performance at the state golf tournament last month landed a Columbus graduate an opportunity to play the sport collegiality. Kourtney Orr returned to Columbus High School Wednesday afternoon, signing a letter of intent to join the Des Moines Area Community College Women’s Golf Team. Orr was planning on being a traditional student at Iowa State University this coming fall.

Orr joined the PM Sports Page this week to discuss her late signing, saying DMACC Women’s Golf Coach Larry Briley followed her during the Class 2A state golf tournament at Jester Park in Granger. Briley told KCII Sports he’s partial to recruiting Iowa kids, stating he’s only offered one scholarship to an athlete who didn’t reside in the state during his 12-year tenure.

Orr’s high school golf achievements included being a two-time Class 2A state tournament qualifier, becoming the first female in school history to make the event as an individual last year as a junior. She concluded her career in a tie for 18th place in this year’s Class 2A state tournament, carding a 36-hole score of 19 over 181. She also was named to the Class 2A District 3 team, finishing the regional final tournament in a tie for second place with 88 strokes.
