For the first time since 2002, Iowa District 88 will have someone else serving in the Iowa House of Representatives. Republican Tom Sands of Wapello announced Thursday he won’t be seeking re-election. Since the primary elections have already taken place with Sands’ name on the ballot, a different election process will proceed to find a new representative for District 88.

Taylor Mason with the Iowa Republican Party said the chairman of the Republican Party will issue a call to nominating convention, and the people voting will be the central committee from the district. District 88 serves Louisa County and parts of Muscatine and Des Moines counties. Mason added each precinct in the three counties will be allocated votes based on the gubernatorial election in 2014.
