Air Care was placed on standby following a single-vehicle rollover wreck near Richmond Sunday. According to the Washington County Sheriff’s report, at 3:51 p.m. the crash was reported at the intersection of Am Vets Road and 140th Street with a person trapped in the Ford Mustang Cobra. Both people in the car were cared for by emergency medical personnel with the passenger being transported by Washington County Ambulance to the University of Iowa Hospitals. The driver was Philip Duwa of Washington and he was transported by private vehicle for medical treatment.

It was determined that Duwa was traveling from Am Vets Road and turned westbound onto 140th Street with excessive acceleration and lost control of the car. The Mustang left the roadway to the right, over-corrected and left the roadway to the left, entering the south ditch where it rolled and came to rest on its top. Citations are pending against Duwa for reckless driving and failure to maintain control.

Iowa State Patrol, Kalona Fire and Rescue, and Kalona QRS also responded to the scene.
