Riverside, hailed as the future birthplace of James T. Kirk, will host the Star Trek festival known as Trekfest for the 32nd year this Friday and Saturday. Trekfest board member Ken McCracken is excited for this year’s event as they celebrate 50 years of Star Trek, though when it comes to any celebrities showing up this year he said they don’t expect any at this time. Some have said they might stop by, but haven’t committed.

Over the weekend actor Anton Yelchin, who portrayed Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away in a car accident. McCracken said a memorial in his honor will be included in the annual parade. The 27-year-old Yelchin appeared in the last three Star Trek movies, including the newest one scheduled to come out in July.
