There was plenty of offense on display Wednesday night at Dick Sojka Memorial Field. The Washington Demon baseball team (15-11 overall) resumed their season at home, hosting the Central Lee Hawks (13-10 overall) in a non-conference tilt. The Demons and Hawks combined to score 18 runs as Washington edged Central Lee, 10-8.

Washington scored at least one run in every inning last night. Junior Bryce Craff led the way offensively for Washington, collecting three hits and driving in five runs in the victory.

The Demons celebrated the playing careers of two seniors Wednesday, including Michael Ellingson and Cole Embree. Ellingson earned the victory on the mound, allowing four runs, one earned, on seven hits, walking no one and striking out one. Embree contributed three runs scored for Washington.

The victory improves Washington’s overall record to 15-11. The Demons return to the diamond tonight, facing the Mount Pleasant Panthers (15-14 overall) in a pair of Southeast Conference games. The teams split their previous conference doubleheader on June 9. Washington won game one, 5-2, while Mount Pleasant came away with a 9-1 victory in game two.

KCII Sports will provide live play-by-play coverage of the league doubleheader, beginning with the Washington Hy-Vee Pregame Show at 5 p.m. and first pitch is set for 5:30 p.m. on FM 106.1 and KCIIRadio.com.
