The City of Washington is working to improve water supply by fixing two of the city’s wells that have had issues in the past year. The council approved an engineering task order for Well #7 with FOX Engineering. City Administrator Brent Hinson explains, Well #7 is the city’s newest well, created in 1969 and has been down for several months without a pump and motor. He added they think Well #7 can last another 10 years because it doesn’t need to be re-cased at this time.

Meanwhile, the solution currently in Well #6 is temporary, with a loaner pump and motor. The council approved replacing the motor for Well #6 for about $17,000. Down the road, city staff will look at replacing the stainless steel pipe with flexible drop hose. The work on the wells is going to push improvements to the south water tower back a few years.

Work on Well #7 will be done first, followed shortly by Well #6 and Hinson aims to have the work complete by the middle of next year.
