With a vote of 4-2 the Washington City Council approved a listing agreement for the former library building on East Main Street at their meeting Tuesday night. The listing agreement is with Lepic-Kroeger Realtors of Iowa City, and Jeff Edberg with the office spoke at the meeting, explaining he’ll work to market the commercial space by drafting potential options and showing those to potentially interested parties.

The councilmen to vote in opposition were Jaron Rosien and Russ Zieglowsky. Rosien stated he and the council will be responsible for the future of the building, whether it means it is sold or developed by the city. He added that because there was a local option for the marketing that he’d vote in opposition. Edberg explained the Washington and Iowa City realtor associations joined in recent years and act as one association, meaning other realtors in the area can still access and show the building.

The contract approved includes a stipulation that the council have final consideration on any offers and the fee for Edberg be $17,130 or six percent of the final sale, whichever is higher. The listing price is $571,000.
