Kernels Stadium in Cedar Rapids will host a pair of Washington County baseball teams tonight. The Washington Demons (5-2 overall) and the Highland Huskies (3-2 overall) will square off in a non-conference meeting at the home of the Cedar Rapids Kernels.

Entering the week, Washington had won four of their first five games of the season, plating 37 runs. Seven players recorded five or more hits, including senior Cole Embree (5) and juniors Dakota Kron (7), Collin Zear (6), Zach Londberg (5), Ryan Loy (5), Noah Enfield (5), and Bryce Craff (5). Kron and Londberg are tied for the team lead in runs scored with five, while junior Michael Gier, Zear, and Craff have scored four runs a piece.

Three Demon pitchers have thrown more than seven innings. Londberg leads the team with 10 innings pitched, posting a 2-0 record with an earned run average of 0.70. Junior Tanner Coleman hasn’t allowed a run in eight innings on the mound, recording a 6:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Zear had thrown seven innings for the Demons, allowing three earned runs with a 3:1 strikeout to walk ratio.

The Demons split a doubleheader last night with the Louisa-Muscatine Falcons, falling in game one 5-2 and winning game two, 9-3.

The Highland Huskies won two of their four games during the initial week of the season, earning wins over West Liberty (13-11) and Mediapolis (8-7). Senior Spencer Wieland recorded six hits in 11 at bats, scoring six runs and driving in two others. Junior Caleb Brace pitched a team-high eight innings last week, earning a 1-0 record and recording an earned run average of 4.38. The Huskies won a Southeast Iowa Super Conference showdown Tuesday against the Lone Tree Lions, 8-1, in Riverside.
