An eventful week concluded Thursday for the Washington Demon baseball team (9-5 overall). The Demons’ completed a stretch of five games in four days in Mount Pleasant, battling the Panthers (7-8 overall) in a Southeast Conference doubleheader at Maple Leaf Athletic Complex. Washington split the two league games against Mount Pleasant, winning 5-2 in game one and losing game two, 9-1.

Washington strung together 13 hits in the game one victory. Juniors Tanner Coleman and Colin Zear pitched the Demons to victory, Coleman earning his second win on the mound and Zear locked down his second save.

Zear continued on the mound as the game two starting pitcher. He allowed four runs to score on two hits before being pulled with two outs in the first inning. The Panthers added two additional runs in the second inning, and three insurance runs in the sixth to bring the final score to 9-1.

The doubleheader split puts Washington’s overall record at 9-6. The Demons return to the diamond Monday, hosting the Mediapolis Bulldogs (8-5 overall) in a pair of non-conference contests.
