The second reading increasing utility rates was approved by the Washington City Council at their meeting last night and the rates have increased for trash pick up since the first reading was approved. City Administrator Brent Hinson explained rates are climbing because all of the bids the city received for service were higher than anticipated. The City currently pays $315,000 annually but the lowest bid they received for the next fiscal year is $370,000, or a nearly 18% increase. The monthly rate for trash will be $7, bag stickers will be $1.90 and the annual sticker will be $90.
