The Iowa Mennonite School baseball team led most of Wednesday’s non conference game with West Branch but it was the Bears who forced extra innings and took the victory 6-5 in eight innings.

IMS got on the board first with a pair of runs in the second, Reggie Borntrager’s single drove in Tim Bender and Nick Yutzy drew a walk with the bases loaded. After West Branch scored once in the fourth IMS added a pair in the fifth as Cole Hours and Nick Yutzy scored on a Tobyn Bender RBI single. West Branch wouldn’t go away as the Bears scored twice in the bottom of the frame to get within 4-3. IMS posted an insurance run in the seventh as Nick Yutzy came home on a wild pitch. Leading 5-3 going to the seventh IMS was unable to hold the lead as West Branch chased starter Cole Yoder, scoring a pair of runs to force the eight. Iowa Mennonite did not score in the top of the eighth, but the bears cashed in on an RBI double from Brady Lukavsky for the victory.

IMS was led on the day by Tobyn Bender with two hits and two RBI, Reggie Borntrager had two hits, an RBI and scored a run. Nick Yutzy scored three times. With the loss IMS falls to 3-5 on the year.
