Multiple area softball teams are set to open their playoff runs tomorrow across the region. Six schools from the KCII listening area make up half of the 12-team Class 1A Region 5 bracket.

Two Southeast Iowa Super Conference members will meet in rural Kalona as the Iowa Mennonite School (6-9 overall) will host the Winfield-Mount Union Wolves (1-10 overall). The two teams met in Winfield last week with IMS winning the contest, 13-1, in four innings.

A pair of South Iowa Cedar League schools will also meet in the region’s opening round when the Keota Eagles (0-5 overall) travel to Sigourney for a matchup with the Savages (13-10 overall).

The Lone Tree Lions (11-14 overall) will host the Tri-County Trojans (6-10 overall) in the first round of the postseason tournament. Finally, the WACO Warriors (1-16 overall) are set to travel to Danville for their postseason opener versus the Bears. Danville won the initial meeting between the schools, 15-3, on June 14.

All quarterfinal games will be held Wednesday. The semifinal round is scheduled for Friday and the regional final will be held next Monday at the ball field of the highest remaining seed.
