The City of Brighton has begun the process of creating a butterfly garden in an effort to enhance the area. The city has chosen a site on Highway 78 for the garden, and they are now preparing to clear the space so they can plant flowers and do landscaping. Brighton Chamber member Rosemary Pacha said the idea came from a program for the local PEO, where they learned about butterfly gardens and butterfly extinction. They got excited about the idea of making a garden in Brighton, and Pacha added they thought it would be a good way to beautify the area and also lead people to Lake Darling.

The project was given some aid in the form of a $2,000 mini-grant from the Washington County Riverboat Foundation. Pacha said they’ll look for some additional funding, but the grant is going to help quite a bit. She hopes they’ll be able to start planting flowers by next summer.
