The Washington City Council awarded a contract for work on Sitler Drive and South Avenue H Tuesday night to the second lowest bidder. The contract was awarded to DeLong Construction for $402,431.30 with a vote of 4-2; the two nay votes were automatically made due to councilors Russ Zieglowsky and Brendan DeLong being absent. The lowest bid of the three bids received was made by J & L Construction for about $5,000 less, but citing past history on projects with the company the contract was awarded to the lowest responsive responsible bidder. City Attorney Kevin Olson advised it was permissible. Work can begin as early as August 1st on the projects.
