The Mid-Prairie softball team saw their season come to an end Wednesday night in the first round of the class 3A regional playoffs, falling to the Albia Lady Dees at the Monroe County Sports Complex 5-4 in eight innings.

Mid-Prairie got on the board first as Abby Tornow drove in Alex Rath in the first for a 1-0 lead. Albia would take their first lead in the third inning on a pair of runs and stretch that lead to 4-1 in the fifth with two more. Mid-Prairie began their comeback in the sixth with a single run on an error by the Lady Dees to make it 4-2. Down to their last two outs the Golden Hawks came up with one more rally, with the bases loaded Amber Kral drove a single through the middle to score two and tie the game at four. Albia would come through with the win in the eighth as Paige Fry led off the frame with a pinch hit single, Erin Heaton walked to put two on with nobody out and Mary Shepherd laid down a bunt. A Golden Hawk throwing error forced in the winning run to give the Lady Dees the game.

Cassidy Rourke took the loss for the Golden Hawks, she went all eight innings, giving up eight hits, five runs, walking four and striking out one. Jena Lawrence was spectacular in the circle for Albia, she went all eight in the win, giving up seven hits, four runs, walking three and striking out 11. Offensively Mid-Prairie was led by Caitlyn Riggan and Alex Rath who were each two for four with a run scored. Mid-Prairie ends their season at 12-23. Albia improves to 18-13 and advances to the regional semifinal Friday in Centerville against the Davis County Mustangs who were 6-5 winners over Centerville. Mid-Prairie seniors Alex Rath, Amber Kral, Maddi Zahradnek and Ali Naylor all wrapped up their Golden Hawk careers in the contest.
