Riding a 12-game winning streak, the Highland Huskies baseball team (22-6 overall) will look to get one step closer to the state tournament tonight. The Huskies will host the New London Tigers (17-8 overall) in the championship game of the Class 1A District 10 bracket.

Highland cruised into the championship game with a pair of 10-run victories, winning 12-2 over the Holy Trinity Catholic Crusaders (1-17 overall) Tuesday and 10-0 over the Lone Tree Lions (11-13 overall) Thursday in Riverside. Junior Chase Rath continues to produce on the mound and at the plate for Highland, posting a .667 batting average with a home run, three runs driven in, a double, and four runs scored. Rath started Thursday versus Lone Tree, scattering three hits in four shutout innings, walking one and striking out six.

New London made it to today’s championship game by beating Danville, 2-1, on Tuesday and Burlington-Notre Dame, 9-4, Thursday. Freshman Isaac McSorley posts a team-best .406 batting average, driving in 13 runs and recording six doubles. Senior Jayden Flowers has thrown the most innings for the Tigers this season, making seven starts and five relief appearances. He owns a 5-1 record with an earned run average of 1.74.

First pitch of tonight’s Class 1A District 10 game between Highland and New London is set for 7 p.m. at Highland High School. The winner advances to Tuesday’s subdistrict final game against the winner of the Class 1A District 9 championship game between North Linn (33-9 overall) and Lisbon (24-12 overall).
