The latest chapter of a Southeast Iowa Super Conference North rivalry will take place tonight on the baseball diamond in rural Riverside. The Highland Huskies (21-6 overall) will host a pair of Class 1A District 10 semifinal games tonight, including a matchup against the Lone Tree Lions (11-12 overall) in the nightcap. The first game of the evening will feature the New London Tigers (16-8 overall) versus the Burlington Notre Dame Nikes (12-8 overall).

Highland faced Lone Tree in the fifth game of the regular season for the Huskies on May 31. A seven run bottom of the fourth inning proved to be the difference in an 8-1 victory for the Huskies. Chase Rath earned the win on the mound, throwing all six innings, allowing one run on two hits, walking three and striking out 13. Rath helped his cause at the plate, going one-for-three with a double and three runs batted in.

Lone Tree has strung together three straight wins for the first time since early June, winning 5-3 over the Winfield-Mount Union Wolves in the quarterfinal round Tuesday in Riverside. The Lions bested the Huskies in last year’s district tournament, winning 6-3 in 11 innings.

Tonight’s Class 1A District 10 semifinal between Highland and Lone Tree has a tenative first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m. at Highland High School.
