Two Southeast Iowa Super Conference softball members will battle to see who continues their season into next week.The Highland Huskies (20-9 overall) will face off for the second time this season against the Lousia-Muscatine Falcons in the semifinal round of the Class 2A Region 6 bracket. Louisa-Muscatine won the initial meeting between the schools, 4-2, in Riverside on June 21.

The Huskies are coming off a 4-2 victory Wednesday night versus the Pekin Panthers. The Panthers jumped ahead 2-0 after scoring their only runs on a game with two outs in the first half inning. Highland scored four unanswered runs, three in the bottom of the third and one in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead for good. Freshman Megan Hoenig recorded her 15th victory of the season in the circle, giving up two unearned runs and three hits.

Louisa-Muscatine made it to the semfinal round by ending the Columbus Wildcats’ season (4-17 overall), 13-1, Wednesday in Letts. The Falcons opened the postseason losing three of their final four regular season games.

The other semifinal round matchup pits the No. 1 Durant Wildcats (33-4 overall) versus the Wapello Arrows (25-8 overall). The winners of both semifinal games will meet Monday in the regional final at the home field of the highest remaining seed.

First pitch of the Class 2A Region 6 semifinal between Highland and Louisa-Muscatine is set for 7 p.m. at Louisa-Muscatine High School.
