At the most recent Kalona City Council meeting, it was decided all full-time city employees would receive a 3% raise on their salaries. City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh said it was a regularly scheduled raise that coincided with the new fiscal year, which began on July 1st. He said the raise is fairly standard, but can vary from year to year based on the fiscal shape of the city. The city and employees had a good fiscal year, so the coucil and finance committee decided it was an appropriate raise for the work the employees had been doing. The raise applies to employees such as Schlabaugh, as well as full-time public works employees and library staff. Part-time employees were also given individual raises from the city.
