The Mid-Prairie School District was recently faced with the problem of having too many students in the Kalona Elementary kindergarten class for the number of staff members. There are two teachers at the school, but there were 54 students enrolled for the fall. After several meetings with parents and teachers, Superintendent Mark Schneider said they came to a decision. The board decided to keep two classes, but hire an associate for each class that will aid the teacher. He added the district has already begun interviewing potential candidates for the positions, and he’s hopeful they’ll have them hired by the July 11th school board meeting.
