Hot and humid conditions are continuing through the weekend, be sure to care for not only yourself but also for your pets. Amber Talbot, director of PAWS and More animal shelter in Washington, reminds pet parents to make sure pets have access to water throughout the day and keep them safe with access to a cool area, preferably air-conditioned. Limit exercise on hot days to early morning or evening hours.

Signs of heatstroke in dogs includes heavy panting, glazed eyes, difficulty breathing, fever, lethargy, lack of coordination and vomiting. Pets that may have heatstroke should be moved into an air-conditioned area and apply ice packs or cold towels to the head, neck and chest and take them directly to a veterinarian, advises the Humane Society of the United States.

The excessive heat warning is set to expire Saturday evening, listen to KCII for weather updates.
