A pair of juniors on this year’s Washington Demon baseball team received high praise from the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association this week. The IHSBCA released the members of this year’s All-District teams on Monday and Zach Londberg and Ryan Loy were selected for the Class 3A Southeast District squad.

Londberg was Washington’s lone first team all-district selection as a utility player. He alternated between being the team’s designated hitter and pitcher. Posting a team-best .404 batting average, Londberg led the Demons with 27 runs batted in. He also led Washington in several categories, including innings pitched (49.2), wins (7), strikeouts (34), and earned run average (1.13).

Loy was selected as one of the three outfielders on the all-district second team, starting 27 games in right field and three in left field. Batting .370, Loy tied for the team lead in runs scored with 32. His 21 runs batted in ranked second most on the Demons’ squad.

Londberg and Loy tied for the team lead with 37 hits and 10 doubles. Washington finished the regular season with a record of 17-14 overall, an 11 win improvement from last season. The Demons lose Michael Ellingson and Cole Embree to graduation.
