Despite finishing two games below .500, the Lone Tree Lion baseball team (11-13) garnered several postseason honors. The coaches of the Southeast Iowa Super Conference released the names on this year’s all-conference team over the weekend. The Lions had three juniors named to the second team all-conference squad while two additional players were honorable mention selections.

Highlighting the Lions’ selections is Ross Swinton as a pitcher. Swinton’s 41 innings pitched topped the Lions’ staff this summer, posting a 5-2 record with an earned run average of 2.03. He recorded a strikeout to walk ratio of nearly 3:1 (61 strikeouts; 21 walks). Swinton collected 20 hits in 76 at bats, including three doubles, two triples, and drove in 18 runs.

Junior Jovonte Squiers was one of three catchers named second team All-SEISC. Squiers led the Lions with 32 stolen bases, 35 runs scored, and 17 walks forced. He collected 31 hits, second most on the team, in 80 at bats. Behind the plate, Squiers threw out three base stealers in 21 chances.

Dawson Swails rounds out Lone Tree’s second team all-conference performers as an infielder. Swails started 24 games at first base, posting a .994 fielding percentage. At the plate, Swails smashed a team-high 38 hits, including a home run, four doubles, and 18 runs driven in.

Junior Sam Fuhrmeister and freshman Avery Knock are Lone Tree’s honorable mention selections. Fuhrmeister spent time as a pitcher, left fielder, right fielder, third baseman, and designated hitter. Knock started 24 games for Lone Tree, 22 at second base.

The Lions finished their season 11-13 overall, a seven-win regression from last year. Lone Tree loses Greg Feldman, Jared Hudson, and Jake Viner to graduation.
