A WACO alum will continue his basketball coaching career this winter in the state of Illinois. Austin McBeth, a 2008 WACO graduate, accepted the top assistant coaching job for the University of Illinois-Springfield Prairie Stars in May.

McBeth’s basketball resume includes a three-year collegiate career at Iowa State University under then-head coach Fred Hoiberg. After graduating from ISU in May 2012, McBeth spent one season as the head assistant at Montreat College in North Carolina. He’s spent the past two seasons on the men’s basketball staff at Des Moines Area Community College.

Last summer, McBeth helped create Smart Basketball Training, an online video series designed to increase players’ basketball IQ.

The Prairie Stars finished the 2015-16 season with a record of 11-18 overall. Hear an interview with McBeth on this week’s PM Sports Page, debuting Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. on KCII.
