Over 150 Washington residents have already cast their votes in the special election regarding bonds for a new YMCA. Early voting is available in person at the Washington County Auditor’s office in the courthouse or residents of the city may request a ballot be mailed to their home. The special election is being held to determine if up to $3 million in bonds will be used or not for the new $10.4 million YMCA building. The new facility will be located on West 5th Street. So far, the YMCA has raised $2.5 million in private donations, has been awarded a $3.5 million Washington County Riverboat Foundation grant, and applied for a $1.5 million Vision Iowa grant. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. August 2nd at the former library and the courthouse. Listen to KCII that evening for live election results.
