This Saturday a 5k will be held in downtown Washington and a special breakfast will be at your Washington Hy-Vee to raise funds for Arlen Nichols’ cancer treatment. Jennifer Nichols, Arlen’s wife, is organizing the event and shares talking about the event brings a smile to Arlen’s face. He received the diagnosis of multiple myeloma in March and doctors recommended two years of chemotherapy for treatment. In 2007, Arlen received a kidney transplant and the family is looking for alternative treatment options and would like to go to the Cancer Center of America in Chicago for treatment, but it isn’t covered by his insurance.

To register for the 5k visit the service desk at the Washington Hy-Vee. The 5k starts downtown Saturday at 9 a.m., with same day registration beginning at 8 a.m.
