Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday for the special election bond decision for the YMCA project in Washington. Wards 1 and 4 will vote at the Washington County Courthouse, while Wards 2 and 3 will vote at the former library building at 120 East Main Street.

City Administrator Brent Hinson explains it’s a $3 million bond issue with the money to be borrowed over 20 years. With the assumption that interest rates will be at about four percent, meaning the City would have to make an annual payment of $224,000 on the bond. The effect of the payment would be 98 cents per $1,000 for residents on their taxes.

The total project cost is $10.4 million for a new YMCA to be constructed on West 5th Street. The building will be 34,000 square feet, with a full sized gymnasium and six-lane pool, as well as a weight area and multi-purpose room. The childcare services will be located in the Stewart Elementary addition. For the bond vote to pass 60% of voters will have to support the measure. Listen to KCII Tuesday evening for live results from the Washington County Courthouse.
