A new 5k with a weightlifting competition is coming to Washington in September. Teri Hartzler explained there will be two events on the same day with a Pump N’ Run followed by power lifting. She explained the run to the Washington City Council has people do as many chest presses and bicep curls as they can before the run, and for each rep they complete they’ll have 15 seconds reduced from their running time. The council approved the 5k route and the events will be held September 17th.

The power lifting competition will be held on the band stand and has three age classes – teen for 19 and under, open for 20-49 years old, and masters for anyone over 50 years old. Registration can be completed at the Washington YMCA.

She added with RAGBRAI coming through Washington they are not holding the Flying Pigs duathalon this year.
