For the next month, a 10-mile portion of Highway 92 east of Oskaloosa will be closed for construction. The work began on July 5th, and a detour now runs from Rose Hill to Highway 23 back into Oskaloosa. The Iowa Department of Transportation had been planning the construction since November, and they gave local residents warning of the closure using electronic signs the week before. Iowa DOT District Transportation Planner Jason Huddle said it’s a typical overlay project like Washington County residents saw recently on Highway 1 between Washington and Kalona. They’ll be reconstructing the portion of road around the Skunk River bridge. The road should be ready by early August, and Huddle said they waited until after the Fourth of July holiday to begin the project.
