The City of Sigourney is entering its final preparations before welcoming the 10,000 riders of RAGBRAI. Organizer Amber Kephart said the city has held weekly meetings for the event, and they’re now finishing the final details. This includes getting the vendors placed strategically, and making sure the entertainment is easily accessible to the riders. Some of the activities the city has planned include human foosball, collegiate tug-of-war, a dunk tank, kiss the pig, and a petting zoo. They will also be visited by the mascots from Iowa State, the University of Iowa, and Northern Iowa.

Kephart hopes this will help change the city’s attitude towards RAGBRAI in the future. She believes it’s a great thing for the community, as it brings a lot of people not from the area to Sigourney, and they can showcase the town. She added they would like to have RAGBRAI come through again, and she feels they will have a good chance if they can get more young people involved. The race will pass through Sigourney on their way from Ottumwa to Washington on July 29th.
