The Sigourney Savage softball team rolled through the regional quarterfinal round of the class 1A playoffs on Wednesday, beating Tri-County 15-5.

The Savages put together a big inning in the second, scoring eight times to break the game open. Sigourney added three more in the third to take an 11-0 lead. Tri-County scored five times in the fifth to get within 11-5 but the Savages took momentum back with four insurance runs to finish out the win. Kendall Streigle recorded the win in the circle for Sigourney, going all seven innings, allowing eight hits, five runs, walking two and striking out six. Summer Barthelman was five for five at the plate with three runs scored. Sierra Davis was four for five with two runs scored and an RBI. Brooke Waechter went three for five with a run scored and five driven in.

The Savages will be in the regional semifinals tonight in Calamus against the No. 8 ranked Calamus-Wheatland Warriors who were 13-2 winners over Iowa Mennonite School in the regional quarterfinals Wednesday. The Warriors are led on the year by Grace Elvert who is hitting .494. Jenna Diercks, Charlie Hamilton, and Katie Banowetz are all hitting over .400 this season. Hannah Hamann leads the way in the circle with a 12-4 overall record. In 100 innings of work she has a 3.13 ERA and 65 strike outs. The Savages and Warriors square off tonight at 7PM with the winner advancing to Monday’s regional final.
