For a second straight season, the Sigourney Savages’ softball team (16-12 overall) finished one step short of the state softball tournament. The Savages traveled to New London Monday for a Class 1A Region 5 championship game versus the No. 5 New London Tigers (24-10 overall). The Tigers came away with a 13-3 victory in six innings, punching their ticket to the Class 1A state softball tournament next week in Fort Dodge.

Trailing 5-0 after three innings, Sigourney plated all three of their runs in the top of the fourth. Junior Kendall Streigle collected three of the Savages’ five hits in the game. Streigle also took the loss in the circle, allowing 13 runs on 15 hits, walking one and striking out two.

The loss ends Sigourney’s season at 16-12 overall. The Savages lose Sierra Davis to graduation.
