According to the most recent report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, soil moisture levels in Iowa declined last week. Southeast and south central Iowa reported the lowest topsoil moisture levels. In southeast Iowa, topsoil moisture rated at 28% very short, 40% short, 31% percent adequate, and one percent surplus. Subsoil moisture in our corner of the state rated at 11% very short, 38% short, 50% adequate and one percent surplus. The heat and lack of moisture caused stress in some crops, causing some corn leaves to curl.
