A pair of juniors on this year’s Columbus Wildcat softball team (4-18 overall) were recognized by the coaches of the Southeast Iowa Super Conference for their play on the diamond this summer. Bailey Stroud and Shania Boyd were both named to the all-conference first team squad.

Stroud started all 22 games this season at third base for the Wildcats, posting a team-best .412 batting average with two home runs, seven runs driven in, recording nine doubles, and scoring 20 runs. Stroud posted a .913 fielding percentage, making eight errors in 94 chances.

Boyd spent time at all three outfield positions this season, starting 19 games in center field. She had a .379 batting average, hit two home runs, drove in 13 runs, posted eight doubles, and scored 16 runs. Boyd had Columbus’ best fielding percentage at .969, with one error in 32 chances.

Freshman Anna Hamilton and eighth grader Kayla Beenen were named all-conference honorable mention selections. Hamilton played most of the season as the Wildcats’ catcher while Beenen spent time as the team’s pitcher, designated hitter, and first baseman.

The Wildcats finish their season at 4-18 overall. Columbus loses Kelli Roush and Kourtney Orr to graduation.
