At 6 a.m. Thursday, heavy rainfall and thunderstorms could be seen over Iowa on this radar image provided by AccuWeather.

Thunderstorms are expected to roll through Washington County throughout today and into the early morning hours Friday. According to AccuWeather, Washington received 0.82 inches of rainfall Wednesday, while Sigourney observed 0.7 inches and Columbus Junction had 0.21 inches. Early Wednesday lightning was observed south of Washington.

According to the National Weather Service, Washington observed 1.44 inches of precipitation in the first six days of July, four-tenths of an inch above normal.
