Authorities have announced that the two deaths in Packwood Monday were the result of a husband shooting his wife and then himself. According to the Jefferson County Attorney’s Office, at 10:08 a.m., the law center received a report of a possible shooting in Packwood. The caller stated 79-year-old Franklin Neff had called and said he’d shot his wife, 75-year-old Enola Neff, and was going to kill himself.

When officers arrived, they found Franklin Neff suffering from a gunshot wound to the head with a handgun next to him and Enola Neff had passed away from a gunshot wound to the head. First aid was provided to Franklin Neff until the ambulance arrived, but he died later in the day. Law enforcement found a note written by Franklin Neff during a search of the home and in it he indicated he and his wife were suffering from health issues and he didn’t want to be a burden on the family.
