The postseason run for the Washington Demon softball team (12-26 overall) ended over the weekend in Henry County. The Demons traveled to Mt. Pleasant’s Mapleleaf Athletic Complex for a Class 4A Region 5 semifinal game versus the No. 10 Panthers (28-9 overall). Mount Pleasant ushered Washington into the offseason with a 12-1 victory in five innings.

Mount Pleasant made the most of eight free bases issued by Washington freshman Molly Sparks. Sophomore Chi Glaha went three-for-four at the plate, stealing three bases and scoring four runs to lead the Panthers. Junior Baliey Johnson recorded a pair of doubles, plating five runs. Junior Calli Liechty earned the win for Mount Pleasant in the circle, throwing five innings allowing one run on two hits, walking three and striking out nine.

Washington’s lone run scored came in the fourth inning when sophomore Brooke Stout plated Morgan Brinning on an RBI double. Sparks takes the loss for Washington in the circle, allowing 12 runs on eight hits, walking eight and striking out one.

The loss ends Washington’s season at 12-26 overall, a five-win improvement from last year.
