A new  postseason run begins this evening for the Washington Demon baseball team (17-13 overall). Improving their win total by 11 games from last season, Washington will look for their first postseason victory since 2014 as they travel to Solon for a Class 3A District 9 semifinal game versus the Spartans (18-20 overall).

The two teams met in the regular season finale on Tuesday in Solon as the Spartans took advantage of five Demon errors in an 11-1 victory in five innings. Solon senior John Kessler plated four runs while sophomore Tyler Linderbaum drove in two runs and scored two others to pace the Spartans. Washington’s lone run came off the bat of junior Zach Londberg, who went two-for-two at the plate with an RBI double in the fifth. It marked the sixth victory in a row for Solon over Washington dating back to 2011.

Washington is in search of their first postseason victory since defeating the Benton Cardinals , 6-1, on July 18, 2014. Washington and Solon are in the nightcap game of a district doubleheader, following the semifinal matchup between Mount Vernon (27-10 overall) and Clear Creek Amana (19-19 overall). First pitch between Washington and Solon is tentatively scheduled for 7 p.m. and KCII Sports will bring you live play-by-play action from Solon High School beginning with the Washington Hy-Vee Pregame Show at 6:30 p.m. on AM/FM KCII and KCIIRadio.com.
