Firefighters in Washington extinguished a house fire Wednesday morning and were able to rescue a dog. According to the Washington Fire Department, the dog was found unresponsive and given cardiopulmonary resuscitation, or CPR, by a firefighter while being transported to Town and Country Veterinary Clinic due to smoke inhalation. The dog’s name is Gunner. According to the Washington County Communications office, at 9:43 a.m. they received a call from a passerby that smoke was coming out of the roof at 321 West Van Buren Street. Washington Police Department, Washington County Ambulance and Alliant Energy also responded. No other injuries were reported.
