The City of Wayland is hosting their annual Independence Day celebration on Monday. According to City Clerk Bev Conrad, the city has been having Fourth of July festivities since their first annual parade in 1892. She said it’s a tradition they’d like to keep going to keep the community involved with one another. This year’s event starts with the Lion’s Club Breakfast at 6:30 a.m. at the Wayland Community Center. The parade will start, rain or shine, at 10:30 a.m.

Some new events this year include free Bingo and a Wayland history trivia contest. Conrad is hoping for an even better turnout than last year, which saw an estimated 1,000 people attend the festivities. For a full list of events and activities, visit WaylandIowa.com. The KCII Big Red Radio will be broadcasting live from Wayland and Wellman during their Independence Day celebrations.
