In the first two weeks of August, Washington has received nearly double the normal amount of rain. According to the National Weather Service, Washington has observed just over four inches of rain in the first 14 days of August, while two inches is normal during that same time period. The highest amount recorded was 9.43 inches in 1943. Last Thursday’s heavy precipitation caused flood watches and warnings to be issued locally. The English River at Kalona exceeded the 14-foot flood stage and rose to 15.4 feet Friday evening.

Partly sunny skies with highs in the mid-80’s are expected this week. Listen to KCII for weather updates.
