Sigourney alum Jordan Carter spent her freshman year at Marshalltown Community College juggling two sports and her coursework. Carter, a 2015 Sigourney graduate, joined this week’s PM Sports Page to discuss how she balanced her time between volleyball and softball practice, while also completing her homework. Carter said her volleyball and softball coaches made academics a priority, offering study halls to athletes needing to finish their homework.

Carter was a bright spot on the Tigers’ volleyball team last season, recording 269 kills, an average of 2.86 kills per set, and 279 digs, an average of 2.79 digs per set. MCC finished the season with a 4-21 overall record.

The Tigers’ softball team won 29 games on the diamond, and were helped in the circle by Carter. She pitched 118 innings for the Tigers, posting a 9-10 overall record with a 5.28 earned run average. She struck out 78 batters. The Tigers finished the season with a 29-24 overall record.

Having already earned her associates degree and embarking on advanced courses this year, Carter has decided to focus her athletic talents solely on volleyball. The newest season of Marshalltown Community College volleyball begins August 24, traveling to Fort Dodge for a match with Iowa Central Community College.
