Demon fans who attend the first home football game of the season Friday will see an improved field and new bleachers. With the assistance of a $70,000 Washington County Riverboat Foundation grant, the home-side bleachers at the field were replaced over the summer. A new ramp is built to ADA code and there are spots on the first level of the bleachers for wheelchairs. Also, six feet of seating was added on both end to expand the space. Concrete was placed under the bleachers as well and extended into the standing area of the facility.

The visitors’ bleachers were replaced in 2015.

Also, the grass from end zone to end zone has a new look. In March, the school board approved a $16,725 one-year contract with Krafka, a turf management company out of Solon, to improve the turf on the field. Dicks says the grass is more forgiving and soft, than in previous years. He’s asking the company to evaluate all of the district’s fields to improve safety for all of the school’s athletes.

The Washington football team will host Mid-Prairie, you can hear the game live on KCII beginning at 7 p.m. with the Washington Hy-Vee pregame show.
