Corn and soybeans in southeast Iowa are slightly behind the state’s rate of progress. According to this week’s crop progress and condition report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, 72% of corn is in the dough stage and 23% of corn has dented in southeast Iowa; the five-year average is to have 57% in the dough stage and 18% dented.

On the other hand, soybeans are slightly behind the five-year average. Currently, 95% are blooming locally and 77% are setting pods, while the five-year average is 96% blooming and 80% setting pods.

Across Iowa corn is rated at 13% fair, 56% good, and 27% excellent. Soybeans are 29% fair, 52% good and 10% excellent.
