Tomatoes, garlic, peppers and cilantro are all available in area gardens and will be featured in Thursday’s annual salsa contest in Washington. The 17th annual Washington Farmers’ Market Tasters Choice Salsa Contest is being held at this week’s farmers’ market in Central Park. Experts and beginners are welcome and need to bring a quart of their home made salsa to the market by 4:45 p.m. Each quart should be labeled with the salsa’s name, the maker’s name and address, and whether it is mild, medium or hot. Everyone is welcome to taste the contest salsas and vote for their favorite. Market master Bob Shepherd says past winners have included a variety of flavors and textures with peach, blueberry, tomato, watermelon and more.
