Iowans are reminded to drive safely and buckle up during the upcoming Labor Day weekend. Every 53 minutes one person dies in a motor vehicle crash involving an alcohol-impaired driver across the United States, or 28 people every day according to the Centers for Disease Control. The most recent data, from 2014, showed 40% of traffic fatalities involved drunk drivers during the Labor Day holiday, the highest percentage in over five years. Iowa will have an increase in traffic enforcement through September 5th.
