The Mid-Prairie boys and girls cross country teams opened 2016 on the road at Williamsburg Tuesday night.
The Golden Hawk girls entered the night ranked No. 5 in the state in class 2A and did not disappoint, taking the team championship with their score of 53. Fort Madison was second with 63 points. Mid-Prairie’s Anna Hostetler was the individual champion of the meet with her time of 19:05. Other finishers for the Golden Hawk girls included Marie Hostetler in 2nd, Abbagail Evans was 13th, Abby Tornow was 16th, Greta Schmidt was 21st, Kessa Jones 41st, and Moriah Brase 71st.
The Golden Hawk boys entered the meet ranked No. 3 in the state in class 2A. They finished as runners up with a team score of 63. Mount Pleasant won the meet with their score of 31 points. Top finisher for Mid-Prairie was Peyton Miller in second place overall with his time of 17:39. Other finishers for Mid-Prairie included Zach Pettit 6th, Floyd Evans 7th, Andrew Schwartz 22nd, and Quinn Schmidt 26th.
Sigourney also competed at Williamsburg last night. The Sigourney girls finished 11th out of 12 teams with their score of 299 points. The Savages were led by Summer Barthelman in 33rd with her time of 23:54. Other finishers for the Savages included Paige Thompson 52nd, Lainey Graff 68th, Megan Montgomery 74th, and Sarina Gretter 77th.
