The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk football team took control early Friday night in Wellman against Louisa-Muscatine, putting the game out of reach and cruising to a 41-14 win.

In a game heard on AM and FM KCII, the Mid-Prairie defense pitched a shut out through three and a half quarters while the offense got it going early. The Hawks scored their first time with the ball as Ricky Vargas scampered 29 yards for a touchdown to make it 7-0 Mid-Prairie, capping a five play 60 yard drive. Terryhn Jacoby added a 32 yard field goal early in the second quarter to make it 10-0 Golden Hawks. Vargas found pay dirt again late in the second quarter to push the Golden Hawk lead to 17-0 and Jacoby drilled his second field goal of the night, this one from 35 yards, on the final play of the first half, giving Mid-Prairie a 20-0 lead going to the locker room.

Out of the halftime break, Mid-Prairie took the ball and drive 71 yards on five plays to another touchdown as Karson Gingerich connected with tight end Levi Duwa on a nine yard touchdown strike to move the advantage to 27-0. On their next possession Mid-Prairie found the end zone again as Gingerich plunged in from one yard out to make it 34-0 Golden Hawks. Vargas scored on the defensive side of the ball for the Golden Hawks on a 47 yard interception return for touchdown, making it 41-0 Mid-Prairie. Louisa-Muscatine would score two late touchdowns through the air as Jake Hillard hooked up with Keatyn Velez and Austin Leopard for points.

Mid-Prairie outgained L-M 374-251 including 283-88 on the ground. The Golden Hawks cashed in all five red zone opportunities for points in the win. Individually Keaton Duwa led the Golden Hawks on the ground with two carries for 129 yards, Vargas finished with 10 carries for 84 yards and two scores. Through the air Gingerich was six for nine for 91 yards and a touchdown. With the win the Golden Hawks are 1-0 on the year. They will be back in action Friday night when they travel to Case Field to battle the rival Washington Demons.
